Lateral branchlets opposite, deciduous, nodding or pendent, pinkish-green in active growth, soon maturing to bronzey-brown and then brownish-grey, resembling compound leaves, ovate-elliptic in outline 3–7 × 1.5–4 cm. Bark of young trees pale orange-brown, occasionally darker in whole or in sections, irregularly exfoliating in fibrous strips in old trees brownish-grey.
